The Shivas

LA band Flat Worms opens today with a song from their new album. The Shivas from Portland OR follow up with their own new song. Indian Goat has a new record and so does Bubblegum Lemonade from Scotland. Barrence Whitfield got together a new band as a rock’n’roll tribute to Sun Ra. New Madness from Berlin Germany is the new name. Over in whatever is left of Yugoslavia, we have Punčke from Vinkovci and KBO! from Kragujevac with new singles. Australian singer-songwriters Liz Stringer,  Jen Cloher and Mia Dyson formed a new trio simply calling it Dyson Stringer Cloher. Beyondeers are live in Cleveland.

BellraysOur show today begins with the new single from John Paul Keith, a musician from Memphis who we follow closely with every project. Faux Killas, also out in Memphis are also back with the new record. We also have new stuff out of Boston. Dinosaur JR has a new single and Barrence Whitfield and his Savages are also back with the new album. We introduce two new names for us from Greece, who come with high recommendations from Paul in Rock XS: The Karamazov Project lead by Panos Pantazopoulos and the retro hard rockers Ribbons of Euphoria. Out in Philadelphia, we introduce a new band for us called Hurry, although they’ve been putting the stuff out for at about eight years now. Remember we said Bellrays have a new ep two shows ago? Well, they also now have a full length, so we check out one of the songs from it.

Barrence WhitfieldThe first part of today’s show is mostly filled with the new tunes. We start off with the new music from Barrence Whitfield, who continues his furious comeback with a new record called Under a Savage Sky. Then we introduce a new duet from Cleveland Wesley Who, with a live recording of a Prince song. We also introduce Slates from Edmonton, Alberta in Canada – compatriots of Eamon McGrath. Plastic Pals from Sweden are back with the new single. The second part of the show dominates with music of several folks that we lost in the recent days: country music singer Lynn Anderson, record producer Bob Johnston, Flesh Eaters guitarist Stuart Lederer and Eddie Hardin who had a tough job filling Steve Winwood’s shoes in Spencer Davis Group, but also wrote one of my favorite tunes ever Time Seller.

LividsToday we start off with some recent collaborations of Robert Plant with younger bands. Then we move on to the new Resentments album who regrouped after their founder Stephen Burton passed away four years ago. Garage soul singer Barrence Whitfield reunited with his Savages and put out the new record called Dig Thy Savage Soul. Canadian rockers The Sadies also have a new album, and it sounds a lot like Meat Puppets, which we fully support. Tommy Keene has an album of covers and Eamon McGrath threw out another new mp3 to public. Finally, we have a great pleasure to introduce Livids – the new band for Eric Davidson from New Bomb Turks.

Today we have two obituaries, one for Bill Bartell, better known as Pat Fear from the satirical punk band White Flag and the other for Jackie Lomax, one of the Apple recording artists back in the early 70s.

Suzi Chunk Today we pay respect to Beastie Boy MCA and Flying Burrito Brother Chris Ethridge. We also have a new name at the show, a singer from Cardiff in England, Suzi Chunk. Another new name today is a Basque artist called Petti. He joined forces with the legendary Boston’s singer Barrence Whitfield and did a very nice record over in the Basque land, which still happens to be part of the Northern Spain. Naim Amor is back with a new album Dansons and Italian rockers Mojomatics are also here with a new record which the call You Are The Reason For My Troubles. The volume two of Jeffrey Lee Pierce’s tribute record is out and Tav Falco’s Panther Burns have a nice song on it.
