Today’s show is dedicated to Larry Ramos, the singer who was a part of The Association, starting with their third album Insight Out. He passed away last week. We remember him with two tunes, but we also celebrate some new music as well. We introduce The Record Company, a band from Los Angeles. On the other band, in Brooklyn NYC we have a new really fun band called Screamin’ Rebel Angels. Greg Oblivian’s Reigning Sound have a new single. Los Puchos is a new name from Phoenix AZ. They put their music out exclusively on cassette tapes. Tame Impala have a new live LP. We also check out two recent LPs by Brimstone Howl. They were a great band from Omaha who broke up some 7 years ago, but before they split, they recorded two albums. One back home in Omaha and the other one in Detroit with Jim Diamond. Those albums were shelved and waited until recently only to show up in limited edition vinyl. John Ziegler, vocalist from that band also has a new band called The Lupines.

We begin with a couple of veterans from Australia. Deniz Tek of Radio Birdman is back with the new record called Detroit. Leadfinger is lead by Stewart Cunningham and has been around since the grunge days. The most famous band from Boise Idaho is Paul Revere and The Raiders. Mark Lindsay was their singer and he has a brand new album Life Out Loud. Guided By Voices has another new record, I lost the count. Brimstone Howl singer John Ziegler has a new band called The Lupines and we check it out. JJ And The Real Jerk are from California and we check out their latest EP In The Alleyway. Krayolas are back with Canicas Marbles. Finally, legendary Thalia Zedek of Come and Uzi has a new EP called Six and we also played one song from her recent gig in Grog Shop.
Here is one good straight-forward rock’n’roll episode! We check out the newest works of King Khan, Brimstone Howl and Jack Oblivian. All of them have some new stuff out. We explore the history of Cleveland’s underground scene by digging out a 1979 unreleased tune by the group called The Radiation Factory. Los Lobos have a new album where they cover Disney tunes. We also hear one tune from the latest Tom Waits live album called Glitter and Doom. I secretly hoping that Eagles of Death Metal cover Goin’ Out WestM one time in their career…
I finally saw Gentleman Jesse live and I loved the show. A snippet from that show is in today’s episode. Jesse played in Cleveland his new song Word Gets Around and a cover of King Tuff’s Connection. King Tuff is a new band for me, so we check out also their own version of Connection and we introduce them to the Little Lighthouse. Inspired by the new Obits version of Milk Cow Blues, we explore the history of this great song by hearing four different versions of it. Brimstone Howl has a new 45 out, they cover Neil Diamond’s song Solitary Man. New names for today’s show are Palmyra Delran – a powerpop singer-songwriter from New York City, Mark And The Spies, a powerpop band from Netherlands. Also we have DV Nikt art-rocker from Philadelphia and The Guilty Hearts, garage rockers from California. We finish things up with wonderful last year’s Boz Scaggs jazz standards album Speak Low. We caught it as it was slipping thorough the cracks of my forgetfulness.
After two shows when we reviewed some of the older “material”, in this show we have a chance to hear some of the hottest new releases of the current moment. Â Gentleman Jesse from Atlanta, GA and Judge Bone from Finland rock the (Light)house hard for the first time. Brimstone Howl, exciting new band from Nebraska (of all places) has a new album called We Come And Peace. They’ve been around for awhile, but we have them at this show for the first time (mark the calendars!). Eagles of Death Metal have a brand new album called Heart On and while it’s not surpassing the previous one, it’s still very exciting. Lucinda Williams has a new record called Little Honey and it’s probably the most electrified LP she ever recorded. And Little Lighthouse appreciates electricity more than anything else. On the other hand, Holly Golightly has gone acoustic on her new album with The Brokeoffs and that’s cool with us too. And, last but not the least – The Replacements put out the final four of their re-issues, fully equipped with cool bonus track, three of which we sample today.
