Bob WelchI definitely prefer Bob Welch’s era of Fleetwood Mac to the saccharine post-hippie Buckingham era that followed and which brought the some of the best selling (and most covered by indie hipsters albums) in pop/rock. Sadly, we say goodbye to Bob Welch, the architect of Mac sound after Peter Green left the band. He committed suicide on June 7, this year, following an excruciating pain from the spinal surgery he had three months earlier. On the lighter side, we also have some cool new albums that we check out. Chelle Rose from Nashville TN has a new one out called Ghost of Browder Holler, produced by Ray Wylie Hubbard (what a great season for him this year!). Folk rock lady Shawn Colvin, who we remember as a background vocalist on Suzanne Vega’s song Luka, has a new album as well. It’s called All Fall Down. Talking about folk and country, Sonny and the Sunsets made a new album in this vain called Longtime Companion. He even took a picture with a cowboy hat. But don’t expect him to pull Jonathan Richman on you. He’s in it for real. And, brothers Villanueva are back with their band Hacienda and the new record Shakedown, once again a collaboration with Dan Auerbach.

Oberon Rose – Buried Alive;
Ray Wylie Hubbard – New Year’s Eve at the Gates of Hell;
Chelle Rose – I Need You;

The MagnetixToday’s show is filled with some very interesting come backs. Ed fROMOHIO Crawford, who used to be in fIREHOSE, has a new album out with his new band FOOD, which also includes Eric Vermillion (ex Gumball) on bass. The new record is an ep called Four Pieces Form Candyland. 80s roots rockers Del Fuegos are also back with an ep called Silver Star. Going deeper in the past for the old masters, we have Dr. John returning to his voodoo psychedelic roots with the help of Dan Auerbach. And the Texas troubadour Ray Wylie Hubbard is also back with a great new record called Grifter’s Hymnal, sounding incredibly fresh. We also have the new record for the Drive-By Truckers keyboardist Jay Gonzalez called Mess of Happiness, which offers a very sober take on power pop, compared to alcohol drenched Americana of his native band. Today we also represent the latest studio record for the French band Magnetix called Droque Electrique. We had their live recording in our previous show. This time in our segment called Live in Cleveland we have Cleveland’s own New Salem Witch Hunters.

Neko CaseToday we examine what’s rock’n’roll and what’s not and what we like about it and what not… at least in first two songs, as Outrageous Cherry paraphrase Stones in one of the standout tracks on the new album Universal Malcontents. We also check out the new album for The Obits called I Blame You. We know the Obits from the 45 that they had earlier this year. We also have new album for Neko Case called Middle Cyclone. Neko’s songwriting is really in shape on this one, it’s a truly exciting new record. Dan Auerbach, the most famous rock’n’roll Ohioan today also has a new record entitled Keep It Hid. Another, less famous Ohioan, but well known to the regular listeners of this show, Derek Deprator has a new band called Ravenscroft and we check them out as the new demos are crawling out of the studio. And at last, we finish out with two new Homestead reissues – Big Dipper and Volcano Suns.
