Today we start off with the new music from the Texan violin player Amanda Shires. Then we introduce the new blues singer Shemekia Copeland. A star studded line up helps her on the new record, including Steve Cropper, John Prine, Rhiannon Giddens and Emmylou Harris. Jon S. Williams from City of Cool has some new recordings that he sent to us, so we check that out too. Dan Stuart (ex Green On Red) is back with the new record and legendary songwriter and graphic novelist Peter Blegvad is also back with new music. Dot Dash from Washington are back with the new album Proto Retro. We introduce John Brodeur from New York with his Bird Streets and a duet featuring Lia Pamina and Dario Persi from Italy. Nicole Atkins is live in Cleveland.
Today we introduce the new power pop band Hawk, which features David Hawkins along with Ken Stringfellow and Gary Louris from Posies. Nick Lowe is back with an new EP and also Wilko Johnson, legendary Dr. Feelgood guitarist is back with the new record. We check out the new music from La Luz over in Seattle and we catch up with the recent music from Dot Dash, from Washington DC. Dave Alvin and Jimmie Dale Gilmore are in our live in Cleveland segment. We pay tributes to two drummers Knick Knox from the Cramps and D.J. Fontana, from Elvis’ band. Both of them passed away recently.
A good chunk of today’s show is filled with power-pop tunes. We start off with The Akibas new single. This band is important for the history of our show as it was the first band tune ever played at The Little Lighthouse. The we go on to Terry and Louie, surviving duet from The Exploding Hearts and their new single. Galileo 7 from Medway also has a new single. We also introduce Dot Dash from Washington DC and Belltowers from Orlando. Guadalupe Plata with their dusty rock’n’roll return with a new record without any title. And finally, we hear The Z-Boy, an awesome new surf rock, instrumental band from Rhode Island that I saw playing live in Newport, out of a pure coincidence. The best things happen when you’re least expecting them.
