Today we bring you a lot of new bands. We start off with White Manna from California and then introduce equally hot and tough Xetas from Texas. Stars Explode are veterans on the North Carolina scene, but a new name for us. Structure and Hightown Pirates come from UK and Catzilla from Australia. John Robinson of Turf War has a new band called Illegal Drugs and Walter Salas-Humara of Silos revisit some of the old tunes on his new album.

This is another one of our Vinyl Junkyard editions at the Little Lighthouse. In Vinyl Junkyard specials I play almost entire LPs that I found dirt cheap somewhere laying in some bargain bin at a record store. This time we have two more albums from the nineties. Nineties were a time where LPs were being phased out on the market in favor of CDs. Still, some important record also saw vinyl versions. Today we have the first album for Gutterball and The Fall-Outs compilation album Here I Come and other Hits. Gutterball was a supergroup consisting of Steve Wynn (ex Dream Syndicate), Bryan Harvey and Johnny Hott (from House of Freaks), Stephen McCarthy (Long Ryders) and Bob Rupe (Silos). It was formed at the moment where Wynn’s solo career was not performing so well, House of Freaks were critically acclaimed, but also failed to chart in the post Nirvana era. Long Ryders and Silos broke apart, so the quintet went into the recording studio over in Richmond with a lot of good songs and great new-found energy. The resulting album was astonishing. Fall-Outs had a string of perfect singles in the late 80s and Estrus Records put them all together in ’93 on a great compilation record.
Today’s show is dedicated to Clarence Clemons, the original saxophonist of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band. We start with three E Street songs in which I think Clarence particularly shined. We also have new albums for the Serbian band Eva Braun and college rock legends The Silos. Their new album is an unusually shiny summer deal and it’s call Florizona – obviously a name that connects Florida and Arizona. Talking about Arizona, Howe Gelb also has a new album called Snarl Some Piano. It’s mostly a piano record, and we check it out today as well. We hear, Tommy Stinson is about to finish up recording the new record and some of the songs that will appear on this album were beautifully showcased on Minnesota Public Radio. The one that I picked for today has a part co-written with Paul Westerberg. And finally, we introduce a new name at the Little Lighthouse, his name is Frederick Squire and he has a new single with Kate Maki. The last song on the playlist is an old underground hit for the Cleveland band Death of Samantha. They had a brief reunion last weekend when Doug Gillard, their original guitarist, returned to town.
