Major StarsA very heavy show tonight, folks. We start off with the new band from San Francisco, Hot Lunch. They have a new record on Tee Pee that is an awesome tribute to the old hard rock records that used to come out on Vertigo or Deram labels in England. Then we have the newly discovered Jimi Hendrix recordings. Then we introduce two new bands: John The Conqueror from Philadelphia and another heavy one Major Stars from Boston. Thee Oh Sees are back with the new record called Floating Coffin and Natural Child have another great single. Cheater Slicks come from Columbus OH, and we listen to their new music as well. Finally, Queens band Hollis Brown are here for the first time. And yes, they name come from a Bob Dylan tune!

Bob MouldToday’s show is dedicated to all meteor observers in the occasion of the annual Perseid meteor shower that happened last weekend. We have a large block of songs about meteors, falling stars… We also have a new single for Bob Mould which represents his return to the his synthless past. Thee Oh Sees also have a new album, which is quite conventional in form. Whispering Pines is a new band also from Cali that we check out today. They are inspired by The Band. Another premier at the Little Lighthouse is the Cincinnati band Buffalo Killers.

Chloe Chaidez, KittenWe have some new names today. Kitten is a new band, lead by Chloe Chaidez, consisting mainly of teenagers and very young people. They are picked by a big label and sound really great live. Us older folks in the audience were taken by their faithful covers of Joy Division and Stooges. The Spits come from Seattle, they have this classic Ramones sound and they have several records out already. Their fifth LP just came out. Jamie McLean is a guitarist from New Orleans. He was associated with the Dirty Dozen Brass Band and now he has his own band and a new record called Time of My Life. We have another new singer songwriter in our show today, his name is Israel Nash Gripka. Although he is from New York City, his sound is very traditionally oriented. We also have Thee Oh Sees and Ian Moore with new releases. Nick Lowe is back with a new album and his old band Rockpile released some live recordings from 1980 on a new CD.

Peter CaseBooker T. Jones of the MG’s fame continues a streak of new records with The Road To Memphis and once again he is in the great shape. This time he collaborates mainly with the Roots, but there are also other great contributors. Thee Oh Sees from San Francisco also have a new record, called Castlemania and a new compilation of singles. Peter Case also has a new compilation, this time consisted of rare recordings and it’s called The Case Files. Our good friends at Vacilando ’68 sent out another package and this time we pick out a new name for us, band called the Pocket. This is a project of another guy from that label, John Bisset. Check out our bonuses, both Mystery Train and Sympathy for Rock’n’roll offer fantastic tributes to Bob Dylan, who is sweet little seventy since yesterday!

The New PornographersA couple of new things this time… Matthew Houck is a new name here at The Little Lighthouse. He is from Brooklyn and performs under the moniker of Phosphorescent. Then we have two new bands from Austin TX – The Strange Boys and Harlem. Both bands have done some work in the past few years so they are already on influential record labels. Harlem is on Matador and Strange Boys are on In The Red. We’ve been following Thee Oh Sees since their great debut album The Master’s Bedroom is Worth Spending a Night In. They are now back with a new LP called Warm Slime. The New Pornographers are also back with the new lp called simply Together The show is dedicated to the four dead in Ohio – the Kent State University shootings killed four people and one huge dream forty years ago.

The Blackwater FeverHere we are at the new episode of The Little Lighthouse. Next three Thursdays will be a short break for The Little Lighthouse as I’m leaving for a small trip. We will pick up where we left in June. But, let’s see what we have today. Toady we introduce The Blackwater Fever, a new drum and guitar duet from Australia. We have a new Thee Oh Sees 45 and The Rats reissue. The Rats is an early eighties band for Fred and Toody Cole of Dead Moon. Also, check out an excellent 60s Yugo-beat from Bis-Bez! We have a new band Evil Cowards for Tyler Spencer of Electric Six and Dirty Shame. I saw Electric Six again, and they are still 100% fun. I also saw Mike Watt and his Missingmen playing live at The Grog Shop. It was a very playful show that saw Watt in an excellent mood. They played a lot of classic punk songs, several of which we revisit in this show in honor of old Watt. He has just recorded the new opera with Tony Maimone in New York City and it will hopefully come out very soon.

Bob DylanWe begin today’s show with several rebellious songs to help with keeping the spirit of the Zagreb students that are protesting new tuition fees that were imposed on them. Second part of the show introduces new albums for Bob Dylan, Meat Puppets and Thee Oh Sees. Thee Oh Sees debuted last year with their album Master’s Bedroom… In today’s show we check out the new one, called Help, and a compilation of their re-recordings Thee Hounds of Foggy Notion, which came out a few months ago. New Dylan’s album Together Through Life is perhaps the most talked about record recently. Legendary Puppets out out the second album after their recent reunion and it’s cold Sewn Together. SalvationWe have two bands with exciting new albums for the first time in The Little Lighthouse: Thee Oh Sees and The Intelligence. Another thing that ties the two bands together is also the song Block of Ice, which appears on both LPs. We also have Slavic Soul Party for the first time in our show with a cover of Toussaint’s Occapella fusing the Gypsy brass sound with New Orleans, which is something I always wanted to hear. Also, while we’re waiting for the new Ian McLagan’s album, we check out three different versions of the Faces standard Glad and Sorry.
