Lelee

Today we begin with two bands based in Slovenia: Čao Portorož and Lelee. In addition to their local tongue, in the best tradition of Slovenian bands, they also mix in Serbocroatian. And Lelee also does lyrics in Macedonian. That sort of panslavism is welcome at the Little Lighthouse. Another thing welcome is Todd Rundgren. Two recent bands released songs that sound a lot like his tunes: The Nude Party from North Carolina and Green Seagull from London. Son of Gene Clark, Kai Clark has released a tribute to his father and we check it out today. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard has a new single. We close the show with two tributes to fallen heroes. Emitt Rhodes has passed away on July 19 and Peter Green six days after that.

We dig into Memphis neo-traditionalists, Luther Dickinson collaborates with Amy Helm, Amy LaVere, Sharde Thomas and the Como Mamas as Sisters of the Strawberry Moon and another four of his friends, Rhiannon Giddens, Amythyst Kiah, Leyla McCalla and Allison Russell, perform together as Our Native Daughters. Also down south, our good friend Kim Simpson has a new album and we check out Helen Rose for the first time in our show. Veteran and legendary musician who played with Iggy Pop, David Bowie and Todd Rundgren, Hunt Sales is back in a new project. Finally, Scientists visited our town and we check out their new song.

Ghalia Vauthier comes from Brussels and she joined forces with Mama’s Boys from New Orleans, forming a new exciting roots rock band.

Todd RundgrenToday we start of with some bands that used to be big in the 80s: Jesus and Mary Chain and Depeche Mode. Dave Gahan seems to be inspired a lot by the sounds he created with the Soulsavers a few years ago. Todd Rundgren is also back and his new single is a collaboration with Swedish dance artists Robyn. Automatic City from France sent us their new cover of Chuck Berry’s Havana Moon. We introduce two new bands from England, Mulholland from York and Mark and The Clouds from London. Zagreb’s Trobecove Krusne Peci are back with a live album recorded at the Club Kocka. Speaking of live albums and clubs, there’s a new various artists deal called Start Your Own Fucking Show Space, which pays a tribute to a club in Brooklyn called Death by Audio. Also, live in Cleveland, Kevin Gordon plays his new tune.

David BowieHere we are in our first regular show in 2016. We all heard the bad news – David Bowie passed away and we pay respects today. A less covered exit also happened recently – Brett Smiley, an American boy in the late 1970s who tried to become a glam rock star a-la Bowie, but failed. Still, he left a great album which only came out about ten years ago. Carson Van Osten also passed away. He is from Nazz, a legendary rock band formed by Todd Rundgren in the 60s.

But we also check out some new music. 76yo blues musician Ironing Board Sam has a new record, we introduce Milk Lines from Toronto. We also check out the new Sacri Cuori albums. Kevin Gordon, singer-songwriter from Louisiana is also back with the first new record in three years.

Ultimate PaintingToday we start off with an Australian band The On and Ons who serve as a backup band for Paul Collins when he plays over there. But they are also a band on their own and The On and Ons Calling is their new record. The band is consisted of former members of Zeros, Stems and Hoodoo Gurus. This also made me look up Hard-Ons. It turns out, they recently had a new record called Peel Me Like An Egg, which I have overseen until now. Scott Reynolds recorded a new album a couple of months ago in his bedroom, so we check it out. Ultimate Painting are a duet from London (Jack Cooper and James Hoare) and we check them out for the first time here at the Little Lighthouse. Todd Rundgren recently teamed up with two Norwegian artists Emil Nikolaisen and Hans Peter Lindstrøm for an unusual new album called Runddans.
