Today we start with two Alicias. Actually, one Alicia and one Alicja. Alicia Gbur is a well known photographer from the Detroit area and a former member of Von Bondies. She also has a new band called Fawn. Their debut album Coastlines came out recently. Alicja Trout is also a multi-talented artist, but she’s from Memphis, TN. Her new band River City Tanlines has a new album Coast To Coast. Susanna Hoffs, from The Bangles has a new solo record out and it has a sweet retro sound, produced by Mitchell Froom. Amy Allison joined forces with David Scott of the Pearlfishers for their new album together called Turn Like The World Does. Bob Mould’s Sugar had put out reissues of nearly their entire catalog, including some live recording that are out for the first time.

Daughter of venerable jazz legend Mose, Amy Allison has made her own name in the songwriting world with a series of very good albums. This years Sheffield Streets is my favorite. Her music will remind you on the greatest Victoria Williams moments but what will take you by surprise is the wide range of melodic styles that Amy tackless through the album. Every song on the record is a small lesson in good songwriting. Track five is also very interesting, it’s a cover of her father’s song Monsters of the Id, performed together with Elvis Costello.
Today’s show is dominated by the ladies. We start with the new song for the Memphis band Lucero, dedicated to Love and Rocket’s Maggie Chascarillo. Then we introduce two new girls at the Little Lighthouse Dawn Landes and Angela Desveaux. Daughter of Mose Allison, Amy is back with an excellent new album called Sheffield Streets. Rosanne Cash, daughter of Johnny, also has a new album and she covers her father’s song Long Black Veil on it. Jeff Tweedy helps her.
