Steve MackaySadly, today we have two obituaries. We say the last goodbye to the legendary Stooges saxophone player Steve Mackay. He was also with Sonny Vincent and The Spite most recently, which is one of the hottest records this year. Also, Carey Lander, keyboardist of Camera Obscura passed away. She was only 33. We also introduce some new music from James And The Ultrasounds from Memphis, Heaters from Grand Rapids, MI, Clearance from Chicago, Andy Shauf from Canada and Kontiki Suite from England. Some of our listeners may remember our first Vinyl Junkyard editions five years ago that featured mysterious troubadour Peter Isaacson. Well, we have found him! He now goes by Clay Canfield and lives and plays music in Vermont, after some time spent apparently in Nashville and Texas where he rubbed shoulders with the likes of Townes Van Zandt. Thanks to his fans who contacted us here at the Little Lighthouse and gave us this information! All the best to them and Clay/Peter.

One is with his new band called Spite – it features also Glen Matlock, Steve Mackay and Rat Scabies – all star line up, and that’s how it sounds too. He also has a solo record called Cyanide Consomme. Great work indeed. Eamon McGrath finally gathered his three-song downloads into a full blown LP called Exile. We play a new rocking version of the title track. He also has an updated bandcamp website with a TON of great rare demos. We pick some in our show today. There’s a tribute out there to Bruce Springsteen’s album Born in the USA. We feature Trampled By Turtles from Duluth, MN. Another new band today is Zig Zags from LA. We say goodbye to Joe Cocker and Jimmy Ruffin.

Bob WelchI definitely prefer Bob Welch’s era of Fleetwood Mac to the saccharine post-hippie Buckingham era that followed and which brought the some of the best selling (and most covered by indie hipsters albums) in pop/rock. Sadly, we say goodbye to Bob Welch, the architect of Mac sound after Peter Green left the band. He committed suicide on June 7, this year, following an excruciating pain from the spinal surgery he had three months earlier. On the lighter side, we also have some cool new albums that we check out. Chelle Rose from Nashville TN has a new one out called Ghost of Browder Holler, produced by Ray Wylie Hubbard (what a great season for him this year!). Folk rock lady Shawn Colvin, who we remember as a background vocalist on Suzanne Vega’s song Luka, has a new album as well. It’s called All Fall Down. Talking about folk and country, Sonny and the Sunsets made a new album in this vain called Longtime Companion. He even took a picture with a cowboy hat. But don’t expect him to pull Jonathan Richman on you. He’s in it for real. And, brothers Villanueva are back with their band Hacienda and the new record Shakedown, once again a collaboration with Dan Auerbach.

Oberon Rose – Buried Alive;
Ray Wylie Hubbard – New Year’s Eve at the Gates of Hell;

The new songs are in progress, we got one from their website. We also have a new band today, Swedish hopefuls Bäddat för trubbel.
