Nobody's Girl

Betty Soo, Rebecca Loebe, and Grace Pettis together form a new trio in Texas called Nobody’s Girl. We check them out today in our show. Texas also has another legendary trio, self proclaimed more a legend than a band, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Butch Hancock and Joe Ely reformed their Flatlanders. Van Morrison is also here. Lots of people came he’s gone nuts, but we still love him. Jim Lauderdale has a new album and we introduce Jonathan Wilson from LA, Bloodkin from Athens GA, Pilgrim from Tulsa OK and Martha Fields. One of regular listeners in Arizona, Larry created a wooden plaque in honor of the 20th anniversary of The Little Lighthouse, so a very special shout out to Larry!

We start off with a new name for us, a duet of Chris Turpin and Stephanie Jean, that goes under Ida Mae, from London UK. Another new name for today is Cromm Fallon from Las Vegas, Darenda Weaver from Houston and Sofia Bolt from Los Angeles. Over in Nashville, Buddy Miller and his wife Julie Miller have a new record and Buddy’s buddy, Jim Lauderdale also has a new one out. Speaking of duets, Carla Olson joined forces with Todd Wolfe in a new project. Finally, we pay a tribute to the New Orleans songwriter Dave Bartholomew, who passed away recently at the age of 100.

Dark ThoughtsOh! Episode 500 from Cleveland? That’s a lot when you think about it… But, let’s not worry too much about big round numbers and keep on keeping on. We have a new band from Chris Eckman of The Walkabouts, which he formed with Croatian musicians. It’s called The Strange. Jim Lauderdale is back with two new records. One is solo, and the other one is with buddy Roland White. The rest of the stuff today are all new names for us: The Coke Dares from Bloominton IN, Dark Thoughts from Philly, The Black Delta Movement over in Hull, UK and Chris Richards with his Subtractions over in Detroit. Jesse WinchesterToday we say goodbye to Jesse Winchester, a wonderful singer songwriter from the South, who moved to Canada in the late sixties to avoid being drafter to Vietnam war. After that he recorded some of the greatest records in the seventies, with songs which were full of sorrow, nostalgia and longing for his homeland. He passed away on April 11 this year. Besides a tribute to Jesse, we also play some new music. Jim Lauderdale has a new record with songs co-written with Robert Hunter. Paul Starling is another new singer songwriter from LA area. The Singles from Detroit are back as a duet. Baseball Project super-group is also back with another record based around baseball themes. Left Lane Cruiser had a great albu last year called Rock The Back To Hell and now a record that compiles their earliest recordings is also out. Also, check out a really cool, rare live appearance of Harlan T. Bobo’s The Fuzz recorded last week in Cleveland.
