Today is exactly 25 since I walked into KLSU studio to air the first episode of the Little Lighthouse. It wasn’t smooth and only a partial playlist is saved. But the first year of broadcasting was a memorable experience for me. I saw KLSU technology go from the 70s equipment to the most up-to date radio within a year and I realized what could be considered the first ever podcast a week after the first show (and it’s still running). Damien Youth’s live performance made us all at the edge of our seats later that year. It was good to be at the right place at the right time when KLSU decided to toss away most of their vinyl collection. A few DJS and I recovered the collection before it was taken to the landfill and several hundreds of rare records ended up in my possession. Musical selection today is records that I’ve found there. Enjoy the ride as I take you through the first year of The Little Lighthouse which started exactly 25 years ago. Remember that college radio is what is radio supposed to be. Anything else is not.

This Sunday, I’ll be DJing Beachland Brunch starting at 11am and I’ll be playing a selection of krautrock. My friend Steven from WRUW’s Radio Paprika kindly invited me to his show and allowed me to entertain the Cleveland audience with generous two hours of music. First hour was mostly Yugoslav ethno-rock to fit into his general theme and the second hour was a deep dig into the krautrock history. I had a great time being on 91.1FM again (also KLSU frequency!) and here’s that show in case you missed it as Flashlite #877!
