Jenny Don'tToday we have one new band with all female members. The Beverleys – three ladies from Toronto. Jenny Don’t ails from Portland and fronts her punk rock band Don’t. We also introduce the new band for Chris Shaw from Ex Cult, Ty Segall and Charles Moothart from Fuzz called Goggs. The man that made my favorite record last year, Andy Gabbard visited Cleveland and played some new tunes. My field recorder was ready. We also introduce Cowboys from Bloomington IN and a Toronto supergroup Highest Orders. One of the most pleasant surprises this week is Leland Sundries from New York and their new record called Music For Outcasts. Senior Service is an instrumental band from UK. Prkos Drumski covers Fairport Convention by the camp fire and we check it out.

Kate MakiOur show today brings the new music from Mitski, Kate Maki and duet of Shawn Colvin and Steve Earle. We introduce the new band out of Boston Sandwich Police, that features Evan Dando of The Lemonheads, who made a surprise Cleveland show recently. Starling Electric from Ann Arbor is another new band introduced in today’s show. We also hear newly surfaced recording of Allen Toussaint which were made shortly before him passing away this year. Another tribute today is to Chips Moman, a legendary producer and songwriter in Memphis, who sadly passed away on June 13. Mojo magazine put together an interesting compilation that covers Bob Dylan’s album Blonde on Blonde song by song and we check out the contribution from Seattle’s Night Beats.

Jody StephensThe best news for this show is that Jody Stephens from Big Star and Luther Russel of Freewheelers formed a new band called Those Pretty Wrongs (after a Shakespeare’s poem). Their new record is made in Memphis Ardent Studios with the old Big Star equipment and while it definitely draws on that sound, it’s definitely not a cheap nostalgic take on a beloved band. It underlines on just how much Jody was integral to this band. We also have new music from Fort Wayne’s Left Lane Cruiser, and Pat Todd. We have no less than two supergroups today. Hard Working Americans are Todd Snider and Dave Schools from Widespread Panic together with and Neal Casal.
