Today we start off with the brand new song from a really cool new record for Bash & Pop. Then we check out another cool song from a band that puts records much more frequently, Electric Six. 1-800-Band is a quartet that comes from Brooklyn – they hired legendary Mitch Easter to help them out with the new album entitled High Beams. Four Minnesota ladies with years of experience in various band joined forces and formed a band called Beebe Gallini that focuses on garage rock covers. Detroit garage rock revivalists from the late 90s, The Go have a new live album. Webb Wilder, guitarist and actor from North Mississippi is back with the new album Mississippi Moderne. Then we go to Australia and check the new album for The Murlocs, lead by Ambrose Kenny Smith from King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard. Then we visit Moscow, Russia and their new quartet Nikola Tesla and Thee Coils. All Them Witches from Nashville have a new album called Lightning At The Door. Bob Mould from Hüsker Dü also has a new record, called Patch The Sky. We are still very excited by Lilly Hiatt’s new record Royal Blue, and she surprised us pleasantly with four previously unavailable songs. We pay respect to Keith Emerson and George Martin. And, we also have a special announcement, my sister Snežana Žabić has a new book out on Punctum – get it! There’s a lot of incriminating stories involving yours truly inside the book.
Today we introduce Nikki Hill – singer from North Carolina with a special brand of passionate soulful voice and hard rocking music. Also, from Lille, France, we have a new band with Polish last names The Arrogants. Another new band is All Them Witches from Nashville with fresh sound and long songs. Our friend Kim Simpson helped Jesse Sublett (ex Skunks) on his new record. Kelley Stoltz from San Francisco has a new record too, as well as King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard. Today we have some cool new singles by well known bands: legendary Godfathers and King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard. We introduced Zig Zags earlier this year and now they’re back with an EP. Mark Lanegan released an old set of demos dating back to 2002, which really sound exceptionally good. We introduce two new solo artists: Andy Gabbard from Columbus (also in Buffalo Killers) and Bill Lloyd from Nashville. From Macedonia comes Fonija, a punk trio with young folks belting out some impressive tunes.
For some reason, I received a bunch of new records which are clearly inspired by the kraut rock – a German rock movement from the early ’70s which contained long, repetitive pieces, sometimes taking over the entire side of one LP. The new bands obviously have multiple influences, but I think that the following bands are truly influenced by kraut rock: Hypnodrone Ensemble from Berlin, Kinski from Seattle, Ancient Sky from Brooklyn and King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard from Australia. At the end of the show, we hear a live tune by a new, young, up and coming duet from Cleveland, Archie and The Bunkers.
The brightest highlight in today’s show are two live recordings from King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard. This Australian band played two nights in Cleveland and I was there to catch some moments with my recorder. One of the songs was brand new from what I could tell. Another hero of this show, Eamon McGrath has put out yet another of his online only albums called Shortest Ride To The Light of The Morning. Chris Stamey is back with the new record. Mark Kozelek with his Sun Kil Moon is back with the new record, probably the best one in his career. We also check out two new band, The Morons from Chicago and The Zoltars from Austin TX.
Today we have new music from Australia. King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard has a new single and we have a new band from Perth called Zerodent. Their new demos are just in fresh from over there. Today we also have two performers from Canada as well: Ron Sexsmith and The Barr Brothers. Check out the new music from My Buddy Moose from Rijeka, Croatia. I was wondering what’s happening to Mike Therieau. I really liked his album Living From A Suitcase eight years ago. I’ve found him playing with a new band called Shurman over in Austin. Finally we say goodbye to Rock Vodka, also known as David Thum, the original drummer of Tex And The Horseheads who passed away recently.
