Part three of our list of best albums in 2019! Today we review some albums which did not make it to our top 30, which may probably just be the lack of my own attention. But before that, I’ve noticed that a whole bunch of good albums were shorter than 30 minutes this year, which is an interesting phenomenon. Albums were too long when we switched formats from LP to CD, but with less than 30 minutes, they seem to be a little too short. Back in the day, those would be classified as Mini LPs. So, today we also check the list of best Mini Albums, all of which were pretty hot last year. At the top of that list is Gyasi.

In today’s episode we hear new music from Trixie Whitley and Thee Oh Sees. W-X is a new band for Tim Presley of White Fence. Luther Dickinson, from North Mississippi Allstars is back with a solo record. Gary Louris from Jayhawks and Django Haskins from Old Ceremony formed a new duet called Au Pair. We introduce Doug Tuttle of MMOSS. After a short break, we are back with Live in CLE segment of our show. This time we feature a new song from Low Cut Connie.
The central piece today is our large block in which we compare the music of famous rockers and their children. We paired up Ethan and Glyn Johns, Ambrose Kenny and Broderick Smith, Lilly and John Hiat and Trixie and Chris Whitley. We also listen to the Cynics live in Cleveland, new music for Jimbo Mathus and we have one new name – Diemonds from Toronto in Canada.
MBV ya all… The biggest buzz since the power went out at the Super Bowl is the return of My Bloody Valentine. Without much pomp, they released a new record simply called mbv, and it sound like time did not change anything in their dreamy ways. Another interesting return is for Endless Boogie, who are going to put out a new album by the end of February. In the same time, we are expecting the new record for Tim Lee 3, and we are previewing one song from each band and each new records. New names today are Livingstone Daisies from Melbourne, Australia and The Resonars from Arizona. I made mistake announcing the band in the show though – their name is not The Resonators, but The Resonars. Another new band today is Prkos Drumski from Novi Sad – another representative of the neo-acoustic scene in ex-Yugoslavia. Trixie Whitley is back with the new record and Eamon McGrath uncovered an unpretentious collection of demos that predate his legendary Young Canadians by a few months. There’s also an interesting moment where we play Hanging On The Telephone in three different language versions as a tribute to The Nerves.
Today we open up with our good friends Cheap Wine from Pesaro in Italy, one of the best Americana band outside America. We also represent the new album from the Australian singer songwriter Paul Kelly. Sarah Borges joined forces with Los Straitjackets for a cover of The Rolling Stones Let’s Spend The Night Together. Buddy Miller joined forces with Jim Lauderdale for a new album together. And Trixie Whitley visited Cleveland with her band and totally rocked the house. We hear a portion of her snow in Beachland in our segment Live in Cleveland.
