From Croatia, we have the new stuff from San Mikulec and his Snooze In Motion and a very special collaboration between Branimir Živković of Overflow and Zvonka Obajdin of Svemir. One of the more surprising reunions that happened in recent days is the reunion of the 70s all female band called Fanny, lead by June Millington. Their new album Walked The Earth sounds very fresh. We also check out the new album for Dan Finnemore. He used to be with Low Cut Connie, but now he has a new band Swampmeat Family Band. Hyperactive Vasko Atanasoski who used to be in Bernays Propaganda has a new band with Deni Krstev called My Tear. Juliana Hatfield announced a new album of Olivia Newton John covers with a cool cover of Physical. We also check out the new album from Canada’s Sloan. New introductions are Sufis from New York and Nashville, Stars Explode from Chapel Hill, NC, Andrew Bryant from Mississippi and Ross Cooper from Lubbock, TX.
Today we start with the new music for the three ladies in California, Midnite Snaxxx. Guided By Voices has yet another album and we check out a track that closes it. Mia Dyson from Australia is back with the new record and so are the Londoners Jack Sandham and Wednesday Lyle who are together in Cowbell. Oslobodioci from Serbia have an interesting new cover of the Husker Du tune Sorry Somehow. Lemon Twigs are back with a new song that sounds like a Todd Rundgren song and Lemon Clocks are back with their new psychedelic doings. Lovely Bad Things are a new band for us, lead by Lauren Curtius and Beechwood from New York City closes the show with their new album.
Just as we introduced the new John Paul Keith’s new single, his new album with The Motel Mirrors also came out. It also features Amy LaVere and Will Sexton in the line up. The rest of the new music today are all new introductions. First we have two new bands form Los Angeles: Dommengang and L.A. Witch. Clevelander and a hopeful in the comedy business Dave Hill teamed up with Chris Reifert from Autopsy and Death in a new band called Painted Doll. We also have Bad Moves. They come from Washington DC. Australian Rebecca Louise Chilcott goes by the name of Ruby Boots and another singer songwriter, Sue Foley comes from Canada. They both have new interesting albums. Rench is a guy from Brooklyn who mixes country with hip hop beats in his band Gangstagrass, but this time we check out his new solo record.
Jonathan Richman has a new single with our sponsor The Blue Arrow Records and we check it out. Also, we hear the new singles from Eamon McGrath and Low Cut Connie. Two bands share a split EP, Remedy from Austria and ESC Life from Croatia. ESC Life used to be a backing band for Grant Hart when he did a tour in Europe a few years ago. King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard continue their hyper-production with yet another new album which they call Polygondwanaland. Our show today is dedicated to the drummer of Flesh Eaters, Christian Free who used to be a part of their 90s line up and passed away last week. Also Kak Channthy of The Cambodian Space Project got killed in a car accident last week. We didn’t play this band before, but it’s still important to pay respect to this spectacularly interesting singer-songwriter.
New music took us strange places this time. I recently came across a band from Barcelona, Spain, by the name of Belgrado, with a Polish singer that takes up the visual identity of Yugoslavian Zenitism movement and sounds like they are from Rijeka, cca 1983. Then, we also check out a Welsh band that named themselves after my old hometown, Vukovar. Back in that old part of the world, we also get new music from Nina Romić and PunÄke. The rest of the show also brings the new albums from Calexico, as well as a new collaboration between Dave Alvin and Jimmie Dale Gilmore. We also introduce some new names for us. Big Eyes lead by Kate Eldridge come from New York City and the singer-songwriter Shawna Russel hails from Oklahoma.
Our show today begins with the new single from John Paul Keith, a musician from Memphis who we follow closely with every project. Faux Killas, also out in Memphis are also back with the new record. We also have new stuff out of Boston. Dinosaur JR has a new single and Barrence Whitfield and his Savages are also back with the new album. We introduce two new names for us from Greece, who come with high recommendations from Paul in Rock XS: The Karamazov Project lead by Panos Pantazopoulos and the retro hard rockers Ribbons of Euphoria. Out in Philadelphia, we introduce a new band for us called Hurry, although they’ve been putting the stuff out for at about eight years now. Remember we said Bellrays have a new ep two shows ago? Well, they also now have a full length, so we check out one of the songs from it.
Brian Olive announces his new album in May with the new tune. Superchunk is back with the new album. Janiva Magness, blues singer with the roots in Detroit also has a new album. John Robinson of Turf War has a new band called Illegal Drugs and Walter Salas-Humara of Silos revisit some of the old tunes on his new album.
