Rat Columns

Nice new tunes today from Guided By Voices, Rat Columns, Jay Gonzalez and Autogramm. Leigh Gregory of The Dispossessed and Mellow Drunk is back with a solo record and opening tune on it bears a tribute to Lemonheads in its title. Speaking of Lemonheads, PA musician Fred Mascherino teamed up with Evan Dando co-writing a song together for his band The Color Fred. We introduce Wilding from Melbourne and Sam Coffey and the Iron Lungs from Toronto. We close the show today with a small tribute to Zafir Hadzimanov, one of the most interesting early pop and rock singers of Yugoslavia who passed away recently.

Loud and heavy show today. We start off with a pair of rough punk bands Mud City Manglers from Pittsburgh and Sick Thoughts from New Orleans. Then we get even heavier with Miss Lava from Portugal and reach the apex of heaviness with Big Brave from Canada. From New York City, we have new music from A Place To Bury Strangers and a new posthumous release by Alan Vega. Over in Norway, Motorpsycho prepared unreleased materials gathered for their recent trilogy and made a whole new exciting album out of it. We finish off with Trash Ferraris who we know very little about.

Dirty garage rock selection today. Two hottest new releases is the collaboration between New York writer Mike Edison with the Spanish band Guadalupe Plata. Other hot release is quintet from LA, Richard Rose. Sculpture Club from Salt Lake City announces new album and we have a new tune from Vlatko Stefanovski (former boss of the legendary Yugo rock act Leb i Sol). Speaking of Leb i sol, their late period drummer and a beloved character from the Yugo rock scene, Dragoljub Djuricic passed away and we pay respect to him at the tail end of the show.

Today we have an interesting show, full of new experimental tunes mostly inspired by the new Levitation festival releases by Dead Meadow and Osees. Following that block we check out the new music from City of Cool and Mythic Sunship who may as well have been on Levitation line up. Warm Drag has a new single and we also check out new releases from Hedvig Mollestad Trio and Writhing Squares. We also introduce a young guitar player from Austing TX, Ally Venable who has a very interesting new tribute to Stevie Ray Vaughan. Although she could have titled it as a tribute to Jimi Hendrix and it would still work well, if not better given the experimental feel of the piece.
