Also Kak Channthy of The Cambodian Space Project got killed in a car accident last week. New music took us strange places this time. I recently came across a band from Barcelona, Spain, by the name of Belgrado, with a Polish singer that takes up the visual identity of Yugoslavian Zenitism movement and sounds like they are from Rijeka, cca 1983. Then, we also check out a Welsh band that named themselves after my old hometown, Vukovar. Back in that old part of the world, we also get new music from Nina Romić and PunÄke. The rest of the show also brings the new albums from Calexico, as well as a new collaboration between Dave Alvin and Jimmie Dale Gilmore. We also introduce some new names for us. Big Eyes lead by Kate Eldridge come from New York City and the singer-songwriter Shawna Russel hails from Oklahoma.
Our show today begins with the new single from John Paul Keith, a musician from Memphis who we follow closely with every project. Faux Killas, also out in Memphis are also back with the new record. We also have new stuff out of Boston. Dinosaur JR has a new single and Barrence Whitfield and his Savages are also back with the new album. We introduce two new names for us from Greece, who come with high recommendations from Paul in Rock XS: The Karamazov Project lead by Panos Pantazopoulos and the retro hard rockers Ribbons of Euphoria. Out in Philadelphia, we introduce a new band for us called Hurry, although they’ve been putting the stuff out for at about eight years now. Remember we said Bellrays have a new ep two shows ago? Well, they also now have a full length, so we check out one of the songs from it.
Brian Olive announces his new album in May with the new tune. Superchunk is back with the new album. Janiva Magness, blues singer with the roots in Detroit also has a new album. King Salami is back with a sensational cover of Tainted Love. We also introduce Lee Bains III and The Glory Fires from Alabama and Schizophonics from San Diego, CA. Veteran punks from Ireland, Paranoid Visions are also here with new music. Balkan Veliki label brings us the new band Turisti from Belgrade, Serbia.
Today we bring you the new wp for Bellrays and the new single for L7, out on Don Giovani label. The same label announces the new album for the legendary punk singer Alice Bag of The Bags. Jason Isbell teamed up with the Australian guitar player Tommy Emmanual on a guitar blues record. We also introduce Mooner from Indonesia and PunÄke from Croatia.
Today we bring you a lot of new bands. We start off with White Manna from California and then introduce equally hot and tough Xetas from Texas. Stars Explode are veterans on the North Carolina scene, but a new name for us. Structure and Hightown Pirates come from UK and Catzilla from Australia. John Robinson of Turf War has a new band called Illegal Drugs and Walter Salas-Humara of Silos revisit some of the old tunes on his new album.
Today we start off with the new music from Pat Todd and his Rankoutsiders. They have a new single out. Suzi Quatro, Andy Scott of The Sweet and Don Powell from Slade have a new project together with a record full of cover versions. Hy Maya is an old Cleveland band, with live recordings recently unearthed by the Smog Veil Records. Today’s show is dedicated to Mark E. Smith from Fall, who recently passed away at the age of 60.
Ty Segall is back with the new double LP, and it sounds like he surpassed his last year’s self titled record. Lots of good music on this one. Also from Cleveland, we have the new band for David Petrovich, who Clevelanders know as a charismatic guy selling second hand junk in the basement of Beachland. The new band is called Black Tights. We also have them in our live in CLE block. We also introduce Robyn Gibson from UK who keeps cranking excellent home made covers of power pop hits. Another band that we hear here for the first time is The Cold Still from Canada. The biggest thing in today show is the new band that we play for the first time at the show. They come from Brooklyn and their name is I Am The Polish Army. Today’s show is dedicated to the South African trumpet player Hugh Masekela who passed away last week.
