Today we are saying goodbye to one of the greatest sound engineers in the world for rock’n’roll. Geoff Emerick passed away last week at the age of 72. We listen to some the music he recorded, but we also check out a good dose of new stuff. Alejandro Escovedo teamed up with Don Antonio Gramentieri from Sacri Cuori on a new album and Peter Perrett of The Only Ones is somewhere out there to help as well. Paul Collins of The Beat is back with the new record as well. Aaron Lee Tasjan, man from the heart of Ohio with a stellar biography of collaborations with Kevn Kinney and New York Dolls is also back with the new album. We introduce a retro band from California, The Sound Reasons, Luke Tuchscherer from UK via New York City, buddies of Paul Weller over in UK, Stone Foundation and the new singer songwriter Curtis Roush.

Today we start off with an Australian band The On and Ons who serve as a backup band for Paul Collins when he plays over there. But they are also a band on their own and The On and Ons Calling is their new record. The band is consisted of former members of Zeros, Stems and Hoodoo Gurus. This also made me look up Hard-Ons. It turns out, they recently had a new record called Peel Me Like An Egg, which I have overseen until now. Scott Reynolds recorded a new album a couple of months ago in his bedroom, so we check it out. Ultimate Painting are a duet from London (Jack Cooper and James Hoare) and we check them out for the first time here at the Little Lighthouse. Todd Rundgren recently teamed up with two Norwegian artists Emil Nikolaisen and Hans Peter Lindstrøm for an unusual new album called Runddans.
One of my favorite rock’n’roll genres is paisley underground where a bunch of 80s bands revisited the sound of the 60s. I keep hearing and reading lately how there are new bands that embrace these bands as huge influences. Basically, we have bands that revisit the 80s bands who revisited the 60s sound. I think that’s wonderful! Today we represent three such bands, two of which are brand new. We have Brooklyn ladies The Girls At Dawn and The Parties from San Diego for the first time at the show. Third band is not a stranger to us, it’s La Fleur Fatale from Sweden. In the mix, we also hear some classic paisley recordings. Talking about paisley-power-pop, Paul Collins from The Nerves and The (US) Beat is back with a new record. Two excellent records that came out earlier this year, but we never got a chance to play them are here also: Nobunny with First Blood and Demon’s Claws with Defrosting. And Kurt Vile’s War on Drugs are also here with a new record, although with Vile out of the band for this particular release…
