We have some nice new projects for the familiar faces at The Little Lighthouse. Jeffrey Evans (68 Comeback, Gibson Bros) plays with Ross Johnson (Panther Burns) occasional gigs in Memphis and now an album of a set they recorded back in 2008 with Jim Dickinson is finally out on a disc. Robert Pollard gathered some old Dayton friends and formed a new band called Ricked Wicky (actually the name of one of his first bands). Tim Lee and Susan Bauer celebrate a 33rd and 1/3 anniversary with an LP of the same title. We introduce some new names in this show this time: Germ House from New Mexico, Two Gallants from San Francisco and The New Piccadillys who play Mersey beat versions of well rock’n’roll standards (mostly!).
Secret star of this episode is Neil Young. Two of his songs recently saw inspiring covers. Kent State murders are having a 45 year anniversary this year. Neil wrote a song about the event and this year, Cleveland band Obnox recorded a cover. A totally different sounding Colleen Rennison’s new album is named after a Neil Young song See The Sky About To Rain from On The Beach. King Khan is very active these days. After his album with Gris Gris, he reunited with Mark Sultan in a new duet Bad News Boys. We also have Miriam Linna, once a member of Cramps and nowadays boss of Norton Records. She’s back into the “business” as a performer and has a solo album Nobody’s Baby. Howlin’ Rain led by Ethan Miller also has a new album Mansion Songs.
Today we represent the new album for Cincinnati’s Buffalo Killers. We also have Ex Cult from Memphis with their last year’s album which fell through the cracks. Chris Brokaw teamed up with Chicago professor Geoff Farina on a new acoustic guitar album. New names today are Canadian actress and singer with a great voice Colleen Rennison. Old Testament come from LA and bring out some strong roots rock. But, some of the most interesting things this week come from the SE Europe. Umreti Fit come from Szeged, Hungary and sing in Serbo-Croatian. Vlasta Popić from Varazdin, Croatia, bring out some jumpy, energetic rock’n’roll, which reminds me on Boye, especially on their tune Ako nisam dobra.
