We start off today with the new Swedish quartet Honeymoon Disease with a cool, denim-clad, straightforward rock’n’roll sound. Javier Escovedo, of Zeros and True Believers, brother of Alejandro has a new record as well. We introduce King Mud, a duet from from Fort Wayne, IN. Legendary Dan Stuart is back with a new band and a follow up to his great album Deliverance of Marlowe Billings hecho en Mexico. Our Italian friends Cheap Wine, who never shied away from naming Green On Red as their biggest influence are back with their second live album that contains longer, improvisational pieces. And in the end, we say goodbye to the rock’n’roll legend Giorgio Gomelsky who passed away in January. He helped the career of Yardbirds when we worked as their manager and producer over in the swinging 60s London.

Today we pay tribute to four artists that passed away in the recent days. Kevin Junior was an institution of the larger Cleveland and Chicago scenes. Music that he created with The Chamber Strings was much larger than the attention they were given. He passed away on January 17. Dale Buffin Griffin from Mott The Hoople passed away on the same day after 10 years struggling with alzheimer’s. Paul Kantner of Jefferson Airplane passed away on January 28 and the original singer of Jefferson Airplane Signe Toly Anderson passed away as well on the same day. But amidst of all those tragic news, we find time to hear some new music as well. Our friends at Blue Arrow Records released the new album by Jonathan Richman entitled Ishkode! Ishkode!. Ty Segall has a new record called Emotional Mugger. Night Beats come from Seattle and we check out their new album Who Sold My Generation. We open up with The I Don’t Cares, which is a new duet featuring Paul Westerberg and Juliana Hatfield.
Today we check out the new album from Thee Melomen from Zagreb called Chinatown. Also, we have new music from the legendary Pretty Things, All Them Witches and Kropotkins. Lilly Hiatt, daughter of John Hiatt is back with a very good new album (great drum sound and lovely songs on it!). Bernays Propaganda from Skopje also have a new record called Politika and looks at the politics from a female view point. Royal Headache is a new band for us from Australia and their latest album called High rocks. Finally, a tribute to Lemmy.
Here we are in our first regular show in 2016. We all heard the bad news – David Bowie passed away and we pay respects today. A less covered exit also happened recently – Brett Smiley, an American boy in the late 1970s who tried to become a glam rock star a-la Bowie, but failed. Still, he left a great album which only came out about ten years ago. Carson Van Osten also passed away. He is from Nazz, a legendary rock band formed by Todd Rundgren in the 60s.
Today we introduce Dead Ghosts from Vancouver and Hierophants from Australia. Also from Australia, their rock’n’roll stars You Am I are back with the new record called Porridge and Hotsauce. Fred and Toody Cole from Dead Moon visited Cleveland, and we check it out. Calibro 35 from Italy, are here today with the new record as well. Ned O’Millick of Tito’s Boys from Pula, Croatia has a new solo project featuring Mike Watt on bass. Sadly, we send farewell to one the most amazing figures in New Orleans music, Allen Toussaint. He passed away on November 9th suffering from a heart-attack after his gig in Madrid.
Really good new music today. Harlan T. Bobo is back with the new band called Unamericans. Wreckless Eric also has a brand new single and it sounds really strong. Ty Segall and his Fuzz is back with the new record as well as Don Howland. Holly Golightly has already two new albums this year, one solo and one with The Brokeoffs. We also check out Kimmie Rhodes, who I think we feature for the first time at The Little Lighthosue although she has a very long and successful career. Finaly, we introduce John Krautner from Detroit and Century Palm from Toronto. Also, sadly, we say goodbye to Richard Rosebrough, drummer and sound engineer from Memphis Ardent Records, who passed away last week. We also remember John Fry, who passed away in December and, until now, I failed to pay a proper respect to this truly great sound engineer and Rosebrough’s comrade from Ardent Records.
Sadly, today we have two obituaries. We say the last goodbye to the legendary Stooges saxophone player Steve Mackay. He was also with Sonny Vincent and The Spite most recently, which is one of the hottest records this year. Also, Carey Lander, keyboardist of Camera Obscura passed away. She was only 33. We also introduce some new music from James And The Ultrasounds from Memphis, Heaters from Grand Rapids, MI, Clearance from Chicago, Andy Shauf from Canada and Kontiki Suite from England. Some of our listeners may remember our first Vinyl Junkyard editions five years ago that featured mysterious troubadour Peter Isaacson. Well, we have found him! He now goes by Clay Canfield and lives and plays music in Vermont, after some time spent apparently in Nashville and Texas where he rubbed shoulders with the likes of Townes Van Zandt. Thanks to his fans who contacted us here at the Little Lighthouse and gave us this information! All the best to them and Clay/Peter.
The first part of today’s show is mostly filled with the new tunes. We start off with the new music from Barrence Whitfield, who continues his furious comeback with a new record called Under a Savage Sky. Then we introduce a new duet from Cleveland Wesley Who, with a live recording of a Prince song. We also introduce Slates from Edmonton, Alberta in Canada – compatriots of Eamon McGrath. Plastic Pals from Sweden are back with the new single. The second part of the show dominates with music of several folks that we lost in the recent days: country music singer Lynn Anderson, record producer Bob Johnston, Flesh Eaters guitarist Stuart Lederer and Eddie Hardin who had a tough job filling Steve Winwood’s shoes in Spencer Davis Group, but also wrote one of my favorite tunes ever Time Seller.
Today we introduce Sherwin from Lancester, PA. We also check out some new tunes from Barreracudas (Atlanta GA) and Step-Panther (from Sydney AU). Good old Keith Richards has a new single and it sounds amazingly fresh. The second part of today’s show is dedicated to my friends Žikica and SkoÄa who lost a good home to their radio shows, because their radio station was shut down. Those shows are my favorites and I can only hope that they will find a new home and a new way to continue with their work as soon as possible. We also say the last goodbye to Wayne Carson Thompson (who wrote The Letter, Neon Rainbow and You Are Always on My Mind) and the keyboard player Eric Wrixon, the founding member of Them and Thin Lizzy (although he stayed with them only long enough to record early singles).
We start off with the new Spanish duet called Los Bengala. They have a new album called Incluso Festivos. Zach Jones is a new name from Portland, Maine. Rolin comes from Cleveland and runs a cool band called Nowehere. We also have some good old familiar faces – Rickie Lee Jones and Richard Thompson. His new album is produced by Jeff Tweedy and his old band Uncle Tupelo saw a release of an interesting tribute recently. We cull out Leeroy Stagger from that tribute. Today we say goodbye to Chris Squire, the bassist of Yes and The Syn.
